I tried the Ricard hotel in Valensole
I recently had the chance to be contacted by the famous brand Ricard who offered me to spend a night in a cabin in the middle of fields of lavender and fennel in Valensole, in the beautiful region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. First of all I must say that I did not know what I was going to adventure and I had some negative preconceived ideas on the place of the event … However, today I will tell you the story of one of the most magical night.
First of all my trip starts in Paris, I get up early and go to join a friend at the Orly airport.
Can we really sleep in a cabin-hotel ?
To sum up, before taking the plane, I know only two things : I’m going to the famous plateau of Valensole, where are the famous fields of lavender and fennel that I see everywhere on Instagram and secondly I know that I will spend a night in a hut/cabin/hotel. I can not wait but I’m a little afraid of the destination, can we really sleep in a cabin? Is it comfortable? Some questions jostle in my mind…
The cabin is located at 1 hour and 30 min from the Marseille airport where I landed, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
A cabin designed and themed as the Ricard brand
I must say that the idea is daring: build a cabin in the heart of a small wood lined with fields of lavender and fennel, it may seem surprising, but ultimately it’s great! The receptionist who works for Ricard tells me that Jacquemus, the famous French stylist, realized one week earlier his iconic fashion show 2019, in a lavender field a few meters away, I’m blown away.
In the cabin, we find all the elements of the Ricard brand: the yellow and green colors harmonize with the surrounding nature, the tools to make Ricard products are incorporated and play a role of decoration both outside and inside the cabin.
Everything has been thought to seduce and relax you.
The luxury of being in the heart of nature
It is 4:00 pm, I put all my stuff in my room for the night, I am ready to live this adventure which seems to be too short because I’m enjoying it. There is everything in this cabin for a comfortable stay: a refrigerator, a mattress bed which is more than cozy, a petanque field, a barbecue, and even a natural outside shower ! The energy of the cabin is produced via solar panels located on its roof! All elements of the cabin have been built in a way that respects the environment.
18:00: The receptionist makes us visit the fields of lavender and fennel around, I am surprised by the beauty of the place.
This is where the production of the fresh aromatic plants used for RICARD begins.
In the heart of the field, I am led to taste some fennel. These freshly picked and distilled plants offer unique aromatic qualities found in the bottle made with anise made exclusively from fresh plants. When we returned to the cabin, I was pleasantly surprised to see farmers in the surrounding fields. They tell us that picking will be done in two days and that their job is passed from father to son. It’s a Provencal tradition, they love what they do and it shows.
The Valensole plateau: a captivating place
Then, I visit the small towns around the hotel with Ricard’s guide, who is also very kind, thanks to her for everything. She takes us first to the beautiful Lake of St. Croix, then the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie which is so beautiful that it is almost impossible to describe. In this small village we eat in a very good restaurant that I highly recommend “La Grignotière”. The server is very professional and sociable.
A sunny and extraordinary journey
I return to the cabin with beautiful images in my head, I had a great day in this Ricard cabin/hotel. In this place with lavender fields all around me, as far as the eyes can see, I realize that the Ricard cabin concept makes sense when you know that 80% of its production comes from of the surrounding lands, it is the origin of Ricard. A love story with the country of the sun, La Provence, which is reflected in the flavor of its drinks.
